Danny Boyle 'scares locals with stringent security measures' on 28 Years Later set

Danny Boyle is taking no chances when it comes to security on the set of new movie 28 Years Later.

The third installment of the post-apocalyptic survival horror film franchise is currently filming on the outskirts of Newcastle, but it’s not zombies that locals have to watch out for, it’s robots.

The director, 67, has employed three-legged machines to stop ramblers from accidentally stumbling onto the set.

One neighbour told The Sun: “Danny and his team had put in really stringent security measures on the site to make sure locals didn’t just walk into view.

“The area is really eerie and remote, but it’s used by a lot of ramblers.”

They added: “It’s a vast area to cover and some walking groups were caught out by these censored robots that start shouting. It’s really loud.

“This group of ramblers jumped out of their skins when it happened.”

The news comes as Boyle was banned from filming the “profane” zombie movie at the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Morpeth over the weekend.

His application to use the Grade I Listed site to film was refused by a Church court, who said the movie would “offend” Church doctrines and “profane” the house of God.

St Mary's had previously been used as a set for an episode of ITV crime drama Vera.

28 Years Later will see Oscar winning actor Cillian Murphy reprise his role as Jim from the original 2002 flick, while Killing Eve star Jodie Comer has been cast as a new character.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, Erin Kellyman and Jack O'Connell also round out the cast.
