Drivers fined for doing doughnuts and revving engines in ‘supercars’ near Buckingham Palace

Updated

Four supercar drivers caught on camera performing burnouts, doughnuts and revving their engines near Buckingham Palace during a late-night meet have been hit with fines.

A highly-tuned BMW Coupe and a Mercedes C63 AMG worth almost £100,000 were among those seen on CCTV “in dangerous proximity to onlooking crowds and other road users” on Pall Mall, central London.

The boy racers triggered acoustic noise cameras installed in 2021 by Westminster City Council to detect events over 90 decibels.

Others blocked roads and revved engines close to residential areas producing noise as loud as operating jack hammer or standing next to a passing London underground train, a spokesman said.

The car owners were later issued with fixed penalty notices.

It follows a crackdown, in partnership with the Metropolitan Police, against anti-social or dangerous driving in recent months.

Aicha Less, the council’s deputy leader, said: “Driving like this is not only unwelcome in Westminster, but also incredibly dangerous.

“We often notice an increase of this behaviour during the summer, but we will continue to work throughout the year to deter this from happening.

“We have a zero-tolerance for anti-social driving, so I welcome the latest round of fines and hope by working with our partners we can identify others.

“If you are looking to meet up with cars like this, our streets are not the place for it.”
