EastEnders airs huge return in early iPlayer release

EastEnders spoilers follow for Monday’s episode (July 15), which is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer and hasn’t yet aired on TV.

EastEnders has aired a huge character return in the show’s latest episode.

Ian Beale has been harbouring a big secret in recent scenes, and in the previous episode, Peter found out that his council bid had been a lie and demanded to know the truth.

Now in the latest episode, Peter urged Ian to tell Cindy everything, confirming that Ian revealed the truth to his son last week.

Ian prepared to leave for a leadership course in Manchester, and his family questioned him more on his interest in standing for the local council.

Cindy secretly looked at what was inside Ian’s packed bag and her suspicions were piqued further, so she decided to speak to Kathy.

She asked her if she was covering for her son, concerned that Ian was lying to her and that he was having an affair.

As Cindy explained that things hadn’t been the same between them recently, Kathy reminded her that this was because she kissed George.

After an emotional Kathy advised her to get things out in the open, Cindy decided to confront Ian and asked him if he was having an affair.

Ian denied this, and explained away why he hadn’t packed a suit for the course, leaving Cindy satisfied.

But when she went to get something from Ian’s car, she found a mysterious address loaded into the satnav that was in the Cotswolds, rather than Manchester.

As Ian left the Square, Cindy asked George to borrow his car, explaining to him and Elaine that Ian was having an affair and she needed to catch them in the act.

Gina told Peter that Cindy and George had left for the Cotswolds and, knowing exactly where they were headed, decided to follow on in Martin’s van.

Bobby wanted to know what was going on, and when Peter refused to tell him, he snuck into the back of the van and tagged along.

Cindy and George arrived at the house, and she got cold feet about potentially discovering Ian’s affair, while George was surprised about how upset she was – considering she had confessed her love to him only weeks ago.

She eventually got out the car and investigated, spotting a bottle of wine and two glasses through the window.

Cindy knocked on the door and when Ian eventually answered, she barged in to discover none other than Jane Beale – in Laurie Brett’s first appearance on the show since her character was forced out of Walford in October 2017.

Why has Ian been meeting up with Jane and what will Cindy do now?

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
