Emmerdale star Jessie Elland has opened up about Chloe Harris's shock revenge plan against Mackenzie Boyd as she prepares to secretly flee from the village.

In new scenes set to air on the soap, Charity Dingle is set to put pressure on Mack to end things with Chloe, and Mack follows through and dumps her.

Explaining how things play out, Jessie revealed: "In all her excitement for their first family Christmas, Chloe decorates the house early to surprise Mackenzie; even buying him a Santa outfit to wear for Reuben.

"It’s at this moment that Mackenzie blurts out that they are over. Chloe is beyond crushed and knows instantly that Charity is involved."

The star admitted that Chloe "tries to hide how devastated she is by acting cold and numb", though "this is only a bid to protect herself and her pride".

"As soon as she is alone, and with Amy we see just how utterly bereft she is: it’s one of her biggest fears finally realised," she added.

"I think she’s embarrassed being taken for a fool; to think that Charity and Mackenzie were together, or at least planning to be while she was wilfully oblivious and trying to play happy families," Jessie continued.

"And then she is frustrated and devastated to have another failed relationship – always being left and always feeling second choice."

In dramatic follow-on scenes, Chloe sees Mack and Charity kissing, with Jessie's character still processing the break-up the day before.

Noting that it makes Chloe feel "like she had never existed", the star revealed that Chloe "sees red" amid her fragile emotional state as she goes over to slap Charity.

"It was so fun to film and see Chloe lose control as her cold and composed veneer completely cracks," Jessie recalled.

As a revenge plan, Chloe decides to secretly run away to France, taking baby Reuben in tow so that Mack can never see their son again.

"I think France comes up because she is just trying to get as far away as possible, and she has an old school friend there that can help her get settled," the actress explained of Chloe's thinking.

"She wants to be somewhere that Mackenzie can’t access easily, partly out of revenge, to make him suffer by not seeing Reuben, but partly to preserve her own feelings and try to reduce the chances of her getting hurt again."

Speaking about how she puts the plan into action and Amy's involvement, Jessie said: "Amy is dead against it, they’ve only just come together as sisters and she doesn’t want to lose her again."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
