Hollyoaks star Anya Lawrence shocked by Vicky's brother twist

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks star Anya Lawrence, who plays as Vicky Grant on the soap, has revealed that she was shocked by Vicky's sibling storyline.

In scenes set to air this week, Vicky's half-brother Andre, played by David Joshua-Anthony, will arrive in the village where he attempts to reunite with his estranged sister.

Describing how she reacted to the news that Vicky has a brother, Anya told Inside Soap: "Like Vicky, I was shocked because I thought she was all by herself - apart from her biological mum, who's a waste of time!

Speaking of what this could mean for Vicky's future, she added: "Bringing in some family feels like a good investment in the character's future so I'm really pleased."

Asked about Andre's backstory, Anya said: "We believe Andre and Vicky's dad had relationships with two different women at a similar time. Vicky's mum has a short, one-time kind of thing, which ended with Vicky coming along. Andre has had a proper relationship with his dad, but has only known about Vicky's existence for a little while. He has come to the village to seek her out."

And seek her out he does. Andre will first meet Vicky at the youth club where he befriends her and Dillon who are unaware of his family connection to Vicky.

Things will get a bit awkward when Vicky mistakes Andre's friendly behaviour and she tries to "make a move" on her half brother.

Talking about the moment he reveals his true identity to his sister, Anya said that Vicky doesn't believe him because it's an "insane thing to come out and say to someone".

"After that there is a lot of anger and resentment, as Andre has had this lovely home life with a wonderful family," she added. " She looks at that and sees the life she could've had, where she didn't experience all this trauma."

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.
