Major Hollyoaks spoilers follow from Friday's streaming episode (August 9), which won't air on E4 until Monday (August 12).

Hollyoaks has finally revealed the identity of mysterious gangster Blue.

The ruthless villain was finally unmasked in Friday's streaming episode, as he took off his motorcycle helmet for a sinister catch-up with his loyal accomplice Rex.

Local delivery man Dave Williams was confirmed to be Blue, after hiding in plain sight throughout the mystery in recent weeks.

Dave is out for revenge against Warren Fox, who caused the death of his daughter Lizzie Chen-Williams by supplying her with dodgy drugs in May.

Dave's backstory is that he was one of the most feared figures in the criminal underworld several years ago. However, he turned his back on this dark history in 2017, a few years before moving to Hollyoaks, wanting to concentrate on being a loyal family man.

After losing nearly everyone close to him in recent months, Dave returned to his old ways as he set out to make Warren's life a misery. His vengeful actions have included firing a warning shot at Warren, sending threatening messages and killing the bad boy's mother Norma Crow.

Here, Dominic Power – who plays Dave – chats about the revelation for the first time.

What was your reaction when you found out that Dave is Blue? Was it difficult to keep the secret?

"My reaction will hopefully be as surprised as the audience!

"And yes, it's been hard to keep the secret every now and again, because if I'm out talking to friends and work colleagues who obviously know because they're in the show, I might mention it and suddenly we realise that we're in a public space and we're talking about a heavily-guarded secret. Moments like that, I've had to catch myself and bite my tongue."

Why do you think Dave has slipped under Warren's radar so far?

"For the same reason he would have hopefully slipped under the radar for the audience – because he's an everyman, he's a big softie. He's shown that he's got a temper sometimes, but he's never really shown that he's got that depth of menace to him."

Have you seen any fan theories online about Blue?

"I've seen some people have said online that Dave is a bit too soppy to be Blue and that's perfect because that's exactly what we were going for."

As we look to the future, can fans expect a showdown between Warren and Dave?

"Dave and Warren do share some upcoming scenes together, and obviously it's inevitable that at some point they're going to go toe to toe.

"Working with Jamie [Lomas, who plays Warren] and Jen [Metcalfe, who plays Mercedes] over this period has been amazing and a real honour working with them. I think you can expect a little rumble in the jungle, or the woods…"

Does Dave realise that Donny is obsessed with the Blue investigation?

"Dave learns at one point that Donny is an ex-copper, but Donny starts to think that Ethan is Blue which is quite nice. But Donny's not letting up, he's chomping at the bit.

"May I just say that I was reared on Brookside as a kid – it was the only soap I watched. I wanted to be a Scouser. I wanted to be Damon Grant. I got starstruck when I first met Alex Fletcher [who plays Diane], and I got equally starstruck when I met Louis [Emerick, who plays Donny], so it's been a real pleasure working with him.

"He's such a gent and everything you could want from wanting to meet one of your childhood heroes."

Does Ethan know about Dave's dark past?

"Ethan doesn't know about it, but right from the beginning from when the Chen-Williams [family] joined the show and we learned that Ethan had a bit of a gangster side to him, we would discuss the possibility of somewhere down the line Dave having that same streak.

"Dave reared Ethan as a father figure and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it?

"The show has been lovely enough to give me license to play background, so for example back in 2022 when Lizzie's boyfriend Sid put her life in danger, Dave wrote him a cheque to leave the village and stay away from his daughter.

"This was done with the same kind of menace as Blue. So Blue has always been there for over three years, but always very much under the radar."

Does Dave love Cindy, or is he using their relationship as a way to hide in plain sight?

"I think he is truly in love with Cindy. I think the secret of playing a part like that is understanding the mentality of someone that would lead a double life. That mentality is, whilst Dave is himself around Dave's people, he's just Dave and Blue doesn't exist. But when he's Blue and around Blue's people, Dave doesn't exist.

"It's about believing your own lies that make it convincing and that art of deception can suddenly become all-encompassing, so at any one moment, he is or he isn't."

Have you taken inspiration from any films while playing Dave's double life?

"I took inspiration from Breaking Bad, and a film called Nobody which has Bob Odenkirk in it, who plays Saul in Breaking Bad weirdly. They're definitely the two most current ones but there have been plenty over the years that I've took inspiration from."

Is Dave a danger to his loved ones?

"I think that's the danger of Blue, anyone can get caught in the crossfire, including Cindy…"

In backstory, why did Blue disappear in 2017?

"Blue disappeared in 2017 because it had just got a bit too much for Dave. He also decided to put that life to bed and try to live a normal existence, and have a family.

"By meeting Honour and getting a second attempt at a family, he decided to hang up the Blue gloves and try to be a family man. It was obviously assisted and helped by the fact that his wife was a criminal psychologist. How good must Blue be to keep his secret for that many years from a criminal psychologist?"

Can you tell us more about why Dave decided to revive Blue after staying dormant for so many years?

"It was a slow gradual thing over the year during the breaking down of the family – literally. Beginning with Honour and Serena leaving, and then the boys.

"Suddenly there was nothing left and the one thing that was keeping him to live this sort of family man life was having that family. At the point of which Dave's family were no longer there, all bets were off."

We have already seen Blue murder Norma. Is there any limit to how far Blue will go to get revenge against Warren?

"I mean the moment he kills Warren's mum, I don't think there are any limits! I don't think he's worried about overstepping the mark. He won't hold anything back in terms of revenge. He doesn't want to kill Warren, he wants him to suffer in the cruellest way."

How do you switch from nice guy Dave to sinister Blue?

"It's like flipping a switch, as an actor you learn how to flip the emotions by pressing a switch. It's a lot of fun to do!"

What was it like wearing the motorbike gear for Blue's scenes?

"All I can say is sweaty, very very sweaty…"

Do you prefer playing good Dave or playing bad Dave?

"I've played about four different Daves since being here. I've played addicted Dave, I've played family man Dave, I've played comedy Dave and now I'm playing killer Dave. They've all been fun!"

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.
