Hollyoaks star Jorgie Porter fears dark future for Abe plot

This article contains discussion of coercive control and domestic abuse.

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks star Jorgie Porter has opened up about her fears for a dark future in the Abe Fielding plot as part of the soap's long running coercive control storyline.

Viewers will know that Abe, who is in a relationship with Cleo McQueen, has subjected Cleo to controlling and abusive behaviour and the soap has been working with the Home Office to raise awareness of the government's Enough campaign.

In past months Cleo has been followed by her boyfriend, subjected to jealous behaviour over past relationships and experienced physical violence.

Speaking to Inside Soap about her on-screen cousin's partner, Porter, who stars as Theresa McQueen on the soap, hinted that there is no end in sight to Abe's abuse just yet, warning that John Paul is the only character in the McQueens getting suspicious at the moment.

"He is very sneaky and nobody has spotted it yet. Theresa doesn't see Abe as the bad guy - maybe some signs are there but he talks the talk," Porter said. "He says these awful things to Cleo, but not to the rest of the family, so we don't know what he's like."

Asked if Abe could drive a permanent wedge between the McQueens, the soap star added: "At this point I don't actually think Abe can be stopped. There is no resolve here - maybe John Paul has started to clock something, but will anyone listen to him? They might all catch on later, possibly when it's too late."

On what Theresa thinks of Abe and Cleo's relationship, Porter said Theresa is Jealous because of what she sees from the outside.

"On the face of it, Cleo has the kinds of relationships that Theresa probably wants," she said. "From the outside she is being looked after and taken to nice places. Theresa wonders why she doesn't have that and wants to be swept off her feet - even though Cleo picks terrible men and has very bad experiences."
