Peaky Blinders boss Steven Knight has revealed the setting for the upcoming Netflix movie.

Cillian Murphy will reprise his role as Tommy Shelby in the big-screen follow-up to the popular BBC series which was greenlit by the streaming service in June this year.

Appearing at the Royal Television Society's London Convention (per Deadline), Knight confirmed what era we will be seeing the Shelby family living through next.

"It’s set in the Second World War and it’s really good," teased Knight.

Fans of the television series will know that Murphy's character served in the First World War as a Sergeant Major and received medals for gallantry. However, viewers saw the long-lasting effects the war had on Shelby with him regularly suffering from nightmares and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Back in 2022, shortly after the season six finale, the show creator first teased the idea of a Peaky Blinders follow-up feature taking place in the 1940's.

"It's a very specific story, that's based on a true story from the Second World War and will be told in the Peaky way," he told Metro at the time.

Knight didn't share any further details of the movie setting, meaning we don't know whether Tommy Shelby will have any personal involvement in the Second World War.

Further casting details for the Peaky Blinders movie have been shared in recent months, with Dune's Rebecca Ferguson and Saltburn's Barry Keoghan both signed on to star.

At the same convention Knight teased further "mindblowing" casting details to come.

"We’ve announced Rebecca Ferguson, we’ve announced Barry Keoghan, we’ve got some more announcements coming," he said.

Fans are yet to learn if Shelby family members Arthur Shelby and Ada Shelby - played respectively by Paul Anderson and Sophie Rundle - will be back in their roles for the Netflix movie.

There is currently no release date or title for the Peaky Blinders movie.
