Texas' Quinn Ewers, Xavier Worthy named to Earl Campbell Tyler Rose preseason watch list

Texas QB Quinn Ewers and WR Xavier Worthy have been named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose preseason watchlist for the first time in their careers. Named after 1977 Heisman Trophy winner and Longhorn legend, the award is given annually to the top offensive player in the FBS who also best embodies the characteristics that define Campbell.

Worthy is a third-year receiver who has played in 25 games, collecting 122 career receptions for 1,741 yards. He also has 21 touchdowns, which ranks him third all-time in UT history. He was a second-team All-Big 12 selection in 2022 and has been selected to the Maxwell Award, Paul Horning Award, Biletnikoff Award and Walter Camp Player of the Year preseason watch lists as well.

Ewers didn't overwhelm last year, throwing for 2,177 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2022 along with a 58.1% completion percentage. However, in the Alamo Bowl against Washington, he connected on 31-of-47 passes for 369 yards and one touchdown, establishing career highs for completions and passing yards. He also enters the season with a streak of 116 consecutive passes without an interception, tied for the eighth-longest streak in program history.

Ewers was also on the Maxwell Award, Davey O'Brien Award, Walter Camp Player of the Year Award and Manning Award preseason watch lists.

With even more talent around them in 2023, both players face hefty expectations in a year where Texas is a favorite to win the Big 12.
