A visual history of Union Station arch in the Arena District of Columbus

Every wonder where that arch in the Arena District came from?

It's a remnant from the old Columbus Union Station that was built in 1897.

Almost 70 years later, it was set to be destroyed before a judge stepped in to save it.

1977 - The Union Station arch, the only remaining part of the Union Station railroad station, is restored in April 1977. It stands in what is now the Short North area, immediately north of downtown on High Street.

In a 1979 file photo the old Union Depot Arch was rescued when clearing the way for Ohio Center, the city's convention center on  North High Street and was rebuilt at park at Marconi Boulevard and Hickory Street.  Citizens for the Union Station Arch waged campaign to save arch which was taken down stone by stone in 1977. Stones were numbered and stored until brought to the new site and the arch was rebuilt.
