Wakefield horror crash: Man arrested on suspicion of causing deaths of six people on A61 near Barnsley

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing the deaths of six people by dangerous driving in a horror crash on the A61 near Barnsley.

An 11-year-old girl’s entire family was wiped out in the collision, which also killed a husband and wife on a motorbike near the village of Staincross just before 4pm on Sunday.

Shane Roller, 33, his partner Shannen Morgan, 30, and their daughters Rubie, 9, and four-year-old Lillie, died when their Ford Focus died collided with a motorbike.

Motorcyclist Christopher Barton, aged 56, and his partner Janine Barton, aged 48, who was riding pillion, also died.

A man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and taken into custody.

Detective Sergeant Steven Suggitt said: “I would like to appeal for anyone who may have seen this grey Porsche 911 being driven on the roads around the south of Wakefield or north of Barnsley to please contact us.

“I would also urge anyone who has dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage of this car, that may assist our investigation, to please contact us.”

Detectives from West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Enquiry Team have issued an appeal for anyone who saw a grey coloured Porsche 911 car being driven in the area around the time of the collision to come forward.

They also want anyone who may possibly have dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage of the car and the manner it was being driven to contact them.
