Donald Trump is now the heavy favourite to win the US presidential election later this year.

It has been a remarkable few weeks for the former president, who lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden.

Initially, the numerous legal issues facing Trump suggested he'd face an uphill battle in the presidential election - however polls indicate that even his criminal conviction in the hush money case has not affected support from his base.

And just last week, Trump was handed a legal victory by a Florida judge, who dismissed the US Justice Department's classified documents case against the former president.

Biden's disappointing performance in the first televised debate between the pair led to many Democrats calling for the president to drop out of the race over concerns about his age and ability, which has also given Republicans a confidence boost ahead of the November polls.

And finally, Trump survived an assassination attempt on Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania, and his defiant punching of the air as blood dripped across his face has already become the defining image of this election.

On Monday, Trump arrived at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to be formally crowned the party's nominee for president, and received a rapturous welcome as he appeared with a bandaged ear.

He also announced his running mate and vice-presidential pick, Ohio senator JD Vance, once a critic of Trump but now one of his closest allies.

All of this has made Trump the hot favourite to return to the presidency - on betting aggregate website Oddschecker, he is currently at 4/11, with Biden on 9/2 and vice-president Kamala Harris, who many Democrats want to replace Biden, at 11/1.

But who do you think will win the US election? Have your say below.
