NFL injury tracker Week 2: Christian McCaffrey out, Tee Higgins doubtful, A.J. Brown questionable

Week 2 of the 2024 season will see another week without Christian McCaffrey lining up for the San Francisco 49ers.

After missing last week's win over the New York Jets, McCaffrey is being placed on injured reserve, per multiple media reports. McCaffrey will now miss at least the next four games while recovering from Achilles tendinitis and calf tightness.

On Friday, McCaffrey was ruled out of San Francisco's Week 2 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings with the injuries. In a news conference the same day, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that they were considering placing him on injured reserve, adding that McCaffrey had been in a lot of pain during practice on Thursday.

"It's on and off, but with [Thursday] having the most pain, it's something we're going to be discussing the next 24 hours," Shanahan said.

The earliest McCaffrey can return to the 49ers is Week 6 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins did not play Week 1 due to a hamstring injury that's hampered him. Some fans, however, believed his absence during their loss to the New England Patriots was tied to his displeasure about his contract status.

That couldn't be further from the truth, Higgins said.

"I just don't understand why fans think I'm faking an injury, when for me to get an extension for a contract, the deadline is over," Higgins told ESPN. "I just don't understand why they think I'm faking an injury. It doesn't make sense to me."

Higgins did not practice Friday, the third straight day he was away from the field. He's considered doubtful for Week 2.

"I want to go out there and give my teammates a hundred percent of Tee Higgins, you know what I'm saying?" Higgins told ESPN. "I don't want to give them 50% and half-ass it just to be a presence on the field."

A.J. Brown has been designated as questionable for the Philadelphia Eagles' Monday night game against the Atlanta Falcons. The wide receiver has been dealing with a hamstring injury this week.

“Just got a little tight in practice [Friday]” head coach Nick Sirianni, who added the team would keep Brown limited during Saturday's practice.
