Only Connect viewers 'screaming' at the TV over question

Only Connect fans have said they were "screaming" the answer at the TV after the quizzers stumbled over a relatively simple problem.

The questions on the BBC show - which is hosted by Victoria Coren Mitchell - are notoriously tough as a rule and viewers at home love pitting themselves against the contestants, with many sharing their results on platforms such as X.

But when the latest instalment aired, it seems many fans couldn't believe they had come up with the goods when the quizzers were left scratching their heads.

The hopefuls on Monday night's show (19 August) were trying to decipher the connections wall. However, they missed that the words Tropicana, Sandwich, Class and Soda could all be connected by the word "club".

They also failed to work out that Urban, Moon, Flint and Sweat were all "musical Keiths". As the round ended, Mitchell told the contestants that viewers at home would probably have formed the connections that they missed.

"I would like to thank you on behalf of the viewers who would have enjoyed that enormously," she told them. "There will be some people shouting at the screen very happy!"

Fans watching the show revealed the TV star was quite right, with a few saying that they were "screaming Keith and Club at the telly" as the quizzers pondered different possibilities.

"I’m fairly certain I wasn’t the only one shouting 'Clubs and Keiths' at the telly tonight," one person posted on X. "I can’t be friends with anyone who doesn’t automatically assume Tropicana is preceded by Club," joked one viewer, referring to the 1983 single from pop duo Wham!

Someone else wrote on the platform: "@VictoriaCoren yes, you're correct, I was screaming 'CLUB! CLUB TRIPICANA FOR GODS SAKE' and it was delicious." "It’s a certain age of people who are currently screaming Club at the TV," said another.

"Arrgghh, how did they not see Club Tropicana," wondered someone else, as another chimed in: "I can't imagine never having heard of Club Tropicana."

Mitchell ended the show with a joke, thanking fans for watching and then adding: "I would also like to thank all those who didn't watch.

"Without your dedicated shunning we wouldn't be labelled a cult niche quiz, we'd get loads of viewers, we would move to BBC One and I would be replaced by Bradley Walsh."
