Pampered Pit Bull Picks Out Her Own Shoes Every Morning Like a True Queen

I’m always a little bit baffled by the new crazy for pet “talking boards” — those little contraptions people are buying for their pets where the animals can step on buttons that produce words so people can understand what it is they are trying to communicate. My animals don’t speak English, but I can usually tell exactly what they are after through their body language.

This pit bull is certainly conveying both her displeasure and her choices when it comes to the daily fashion. Yes—fashion. This is pit bull who gets dressed up every day.

In this video, a beautiful black Pit Bull named Akira is posed in front of two different sets (I can’t say “pair” because there are obviously four of them) shoes, and asked which one she wants to wear. The shoes are little rubber croc-like contraptions of the kind they make for dogs to protect their paws from harsh hot sidewalks or rough surfaces. One pair is red and the other is yellow.

Akira appears to pick the red shoe, pawing at it and even lifting one up inner mouth.

But pretty soon she also paws at the yellow shoe.

“No,” her mother chides her gently. “You can’t mix and match.”

Well, Akira doesn’t like that rule one bit. You can see that she is very unhappy by her mom’s insistence that she must wear only one color of shoe, as she makes little unpleasant sounds in her throat and even lets out a disgruntled bark.

Soon enough, however, she is arrayed in her full outfit, the red shoes, a pearly collar, and a pair of bows festooned with red cherries over her ears. And boy does she not look happy about it. The tail is down and the expression is forlorn as she does an obligatory spoon to show off her fit.

Let the Dog Choose

Listen, I don’t dress my animals up, but as the mother of children, let me tell you: you can’t give your child a choice in her clothing and then not respect that choice. My kid, for example, prides herself on wearing mis-matched socks to school every day. As long as it’s not going to get your arrested and meets the dress code, I say let her wear two different color shoes.

And I’m not alone in this assessment. In comments, people are supportive of Akira’s right to self-determination when it comes to her canine footsies.

“Okay, but both of them together next time,” one person urges Akira’s mom.

“Will do,” she answers.

Other people know precisely the kind of spoiled princess behavior that Akira is displaying.

“I absolutely love the dramatic little temper tantrum with her paws!” Writes one. “My dog does the same when he's feeling extra dramatic!”

Obviously, this is all in good fun. Akira is a pampered pooch and her mama is willing to indulge her, just as Akira is willing to do a little twirl, even when she doesn’t love the entire outfit.

When Should Dogs Wear Shoes?

Dog pads are actually pretty tough and in most instances, it is not necessary for canines to wear shoes. There are, however, exceptions. Many people put protective booties on their dogs when they are dealing with harsh conditions, such as hot summer pavements, snowy or icy winter conditions, rough terrain like gravel or jagged rocks, or if the dog is suffering from allergies or other conditions that may make their paws extra sensitive. Talk to your vet about your pup’s specific needs.

In Akira’s case, however, it seems to be entirely for fashion.
