Pet Tortoise's Helpful Enrichment Ideas Have Reptile Lovers Taking Notes

When it comes to caring for small animals, many people incorrectly assume that the smaller the pet means the smaller the work. In reality, caring for a tortoise can require a lot of space, time, and effort--even if the reptile is just a few inches long.

Pet owner and animal advocate Chas regularly posts educational videos about tortoise care with the help of her buddy, Fig, but one of the duo's recent TikToks has reptile owners heading to the pet store. The July 1 video is full of ideas for tortoise enrichment, each as cute as the last. Take a peek!

Fig is absolutely adorable! The way he waddles around could put a smile on any face, but the highlight of the clip was his precious dance moves while getting a shower on his shell. He was so into it!

Actually, Fig had a great time with every reptile enrichment activity Chas gave him. Whether he was eating flowers or "running" on his hamster wheel, he was keeping both his body and his mind entertained. It's only a bonus that this pet tortoise was entertaining all of his viewers, too!

Even though I agree with @therogueblade, who wrote, "'run' is not the word I would use for him on the wheel," I must say that I'm very impressed that he learned to use the wheel as easily as he did. Who knew that turtles could excel at obedience training too?

The Complexity of Caring for Tortoises

It's easy to see why Fig has so many fans, but it's also nice to see that Chas's animal advocacy has been effective, too. More and more viewers understand just how complex tortoises can be to care for, which is why they're happy with admiring them from afar.

"Fig makes me want a tortoise but I can't take on that responsibility," admits @shaniatwang. That's a very mature realization to have! Even though it seems like so much fun to raise a tortoise, the animals' well-being should be your top priority.

Chas and Fig keep their viewers both entertained and educated with their regular content, but videos like this raise the cuteness bar way, way higher. It's hard to top a tortoise speed walking toward a reptile-friendly snack! Turtles and tortoises might be known for being slow, but Fig proves that the right snack can get anyone motivated to move. It's all about finding the right enrichment tools for your pet!

Even though this tortoise showed off some of his favorite activities, you can try almost anything to change up your pet's routine. Try engaging their brains with problem-solving, like putting a snack under a leaf, or even trying a new tortoise-friendly snack. The options are endless!
