The Repair Shop viewers get the 'creeps' over headless doll

The Repair Shop viewers admitted they were left with "the creeps" after the show featured an antique doll with its head snapped off.

The 1930s doll — named Annabelle — was passed down to current owner Pip Martin by her late great aunt Eileen, and she took it onto the BBC show in a bid to have it put back together.

But while viewers were keen to see what experts Julie Tatchell and Amanda Middleditch would do to restore the doll, many couldn't help pointing out that it was a bit scary looking.

What, how and why?

Eileen had owned the doll for many years and when she was an adult it was played with by the children she fostered. Martin ended up with Annabelle after Eileen died and shared that the doll was damaged in a house move.

"I thought I’d packaged Annabelle up really well but obviously not, because her head fell off," she said. "It's just really heartbreaking, I felt like I'd let auntie Eileen down."

"She was my great auntie, but she was great in every sense," she said of her late relative. Martin asked the experts to fix the doll's neck and reattach its head and also to try and improve her curly hair. Talking about how important the doll was to her, she explained: "Annabelle is, to me, Auntie Eileen."

However, fans were a bit spooked by the headless doll, with many posting messages on social media discussing how unsettling the toy was.

"Oh damn, that headless doll is creepy," one person posted on X, as someone else agreed that Annabelle was a "creepy doll".

"She needs to be renting that doll out to horror film sets," said another.

"And now time for the exorcism," joked somebody else. "That doll is scary!" remarked another viewer.

Owner emotional after doll is restored

Martin was overwhelmed when she turned up to see Annabelle after all of the work had been done, saying the doll looked "beautiful" with its long dark hair, new lacy pink dress and with its neck fixed so that its head could be reattached.

"Both of you have done such an amazing job," she said to Tatchell and Middleditch as she thanked them. "I just want to hug her... Oh my word, it's like Auntie Eileen back again."
