A 12-week-old Pekingese puppy named Archie Bean fell four stories through an open air vent in its owner's Colorado townhome, on Tuesday, June 11th. ABC News shared a video the next day that featured the rescuers plan and efforts to free the terrified puppy. You can hear the puppy crying and it's clear that everybody is on edge as they work to find and free the pup.

The 5-pound puppy slipped through an open air vent in the son's room of the home. Rescue efforts included having to cut into the homeowner's ceiling to get access to the venting system. Pieces of duct had to be dismantled to find where the dog was, and after three long hours, they finally found and freed Archie.

While dirty and shaken up, the owner said that Archie was unharmed. ABC News commenters were happy to hear that the story has a happy ending, but a few of them were angry at the homeowner. @mayanting said, "Blame the owners. Such dumb*sses." @Kim LaPlume863 wondered, "Great ending but why an open air vent when you have a puppy?! Just put something over it."

Other Dramatic Animal Rescues

ABC News shared in another article that it took the efforts of South Metro Fire Rescue, Douglas County Sheriff's deputies, and Denver Plumbline Services crews to free Archie. The homeowner told officials the small air vent cover was off inside their son's bedroom to "keep it cooler and allow for more air circulation." I'm betting the homeowner is going to be hit with a very large bill for that hole in the ceiling and putting all of that ductwork back together!

Animals somehow seem to find themselves in precarious situations and rely on the help of humans to get out of them. Like this obese dog that was rescued in the streets of Thailand, with the hopes of getting her healthy and adopted, and her story has a happy ending. If you need a laugh, watch as this couple tries to help an owl they found stuck in their yard...it's comic gold.

Sometimes people rescue small animals that need help, too. This woman found a one-winged bumblebee and was hoping to keep it alive and protected. It was a lovely story and the bee was living its best life! She kept it alive for weeks and took the internet by storm, but sadly, it did pass away.

Divers in Australia went out of their way to help a baby shark caught on a fishing hook, while these monkeys were saved from wildlife smugglers. This puppy somehow got itself stuck between two walls in Mexico, and its rescuer worked slowly and methodically to chisel away enough of the walls to free it.

It's heartwarming to know that there are people out there with huge hearts who will stop at nothing to help animals in need, and I'm glad that I can play a small part in sharing their stories.
