Seal's Curiosity Over Aquarium Worker Cleaning Habitat Is Too Cute to Resist

Nothing can boost someone's appreciation for marine life like a trip to the aquarium. It's magical to see schools of iridescent fish swimming in one huge cloud while jellyfish float in place so peacefully. Like many people, though, there's a special place in my heart for the mammals of the aquarium. There's just something about seals and otters that makes me want to give them a hug!

There's no doubt that visitors of the Pieterburen Zeehondencentrum in the Netherlands feel the same way. This seal rescue and rehabilitation center is dedicated to caring for a number of different seal species, but on September 20, it was a cheeky harbor seal that stole the spotlight. The silly seal couldn't resist getting a closer look as an aquarium staff member cleaned the outside of their tank, and it made everyone smile.

LOL! Imagine minding your business, cleaning the glass, when a nosy harbor seal swims up to investigate. I don't think I could have kept a straight face! Naturally, the aquarium worker was smiling, too, and she even wiped at the glass a few extra times just for the curious seal. She must love her job! Then again, any job working with animals can be hilarious, adorable, and rewarding at times.

"I would clean the same window 25 times," admitted a commenter named Michelle. So would I! I have a feeling the seal rehab center workers would, too, but they likely have a lot left on the to-do list. After all, caring for rehabilitated animals is a lot of work. Fortunately, this playful marine animal will be ready to inspect their work again next time the windows need cleaning. Now I can't help but wonder--does this seal inspect other visitors this closely?

Seal Rehabilitation

While several well-meaning commenters expressed concern for this seal being in captivity, Pieterburen Zeehondencentrum was quick to set the record straight. The seals in their care will be released back into their natural habitats after they've had the chance to heal and rest. At least, that's the goal! There will always be a few sea critters who aren't healthy enough to fend for themselves in the wild, but this is when aquariums and nonprofits can step in to help.

In time, this curious wild animal will go back to their home in the wild, but for now, their caretakers are having lots of fun being watched so closely.
