Sleepy Basset Hounds Only Wake Up for One Treat and It's Too Cute

We all know that dogs are a little food motivated, but one woman wanted to put her gaggle of Basset Hounds to the test. Would her pups wake up if she made some noise — or would only the sweet sound of their dog treat cookie jar finally get her dogs up?

The woman had a hypothesis: she guessed that her dogs would keep on snoozing until she pulled the treats out.

The woman tested her theory with an array of things that would've woken up any normal light sleeper. Sadly, her Basset Hounds are deep sleepers and the various noises didn't produce as much as a titter.

First she tried normal, everyday objects that are sort of noisy. Like a package from the mail and a container of sprinkles. She even gave the sprinkles a good shake to see if that would wake the dogs up — nothing. Then came the real test: the cookie jar. Let's just say that the hounds had a very different reaction.

"Approached in seconds," the woman joked in the caption.

No one was surprised that the dogs rallied for treats. "My Basset is ready to go for anything that might resemble food," wrote one person in the comments section. "Bag of chips does it every time. Ours can hear it from the other side of the house," someone else joked. "My Basset would have come to me at the first item thinking it’s a treat," one commenter added. "I have one Bassett and can confirm this is true!" exclaimed one person.

Choosing the Right Treats for Your Dog

There are a lot of dog treats out there. And every pet owner knows treats are more than simply food — they're crucial training tools, and can be rewards for good behavior. But which treats are right for your pup?

There are several different kinds of treats out there: bully treats, soft treats, dog cookies, dog bones, jerky treats, freeze dried treats... there are a lot of options out there! Unfortunately there's no one-size fits all choice. It might simply boil down to which treats your dog likes to eat. However certain treats come in handy at certain times.

Dog cookies are good everyday treats. While soft treats are good for senior dogs and puppies because they're easier to chew. Dental treats, like Greenies, are good to give your dog once a day to clean their teeth.

You might want to get an array of treats and see what your dog likes. We're sure they won't mind doing a taste test one bit.
