A 65-year-old Rosebush woman has been arraigned on charges after officials accused her of smuggling drugs to her son inside the Michigan Department of Correction’s Lakeland correctional facility in Coldwater.

Prisoner Brandon Eugene Haggart, 34, had a scheduled visit with his mother, Cheryl Louise Haggart, along with another woman also from Rosebush, according to a statement from the MSP.

During the visit, Cheryl Haggart allegedly handed her son a KN95 face mask that contained strips of suboxone.

Her son was searched after the visit and corrections officers found the suboxone, the release said. Officers found security footage of the interaction but his mother had already left the facility.

A felony warrant was secured for Cheryl Haggart's arrest, however MSP said she evaded police.  Her son was subsequently arrested and charged, with his case currently going through the Branch County courts.

The Michigan State Police 3rd District Fugitive team located and arrested Cheryl Haggart in Midland Aug. 1.

She has since been brought back to the Branch County jail and has been arrested, charged, and arraigned on two felony charges in connection to this incident, MSP said.  Her case will now go through the Branch County courts as well.
