Official accidentally calls Seahawks the Mariners when announcing a penalty

An official made a simple yet embarrassing slip Sunday afternoon at Lumen Field. Official Jerome Boger accidentally mixed up the Seattle Seahawks with the Seattle Mariners.

Late in the fourth quarter of the Seahawks’ 27-13 win over the New York Giants, Seattle got hit with a sideline interference call. As Boger was calling out the 15-yard penalty, he seemed to forget who he was calling it on.

So he called it on the Seattle Mariners.

Whoops.

Boger is far from the first official to slip while announcing a call, and he won’t be the last. But both the Seahawks and the Mariners were happy to “embrace the chaos” Boger accidentally threw into the mix.

Hey, at least he got the city right.

The Seahawks, who were tied with the Giants early in the fourth quarter, flew to the 14-point win after scoring two unanswered touchdowns from Tyler Lockett and Kenneth Walker III. The win marked their third straight, and snapped the Giants’ four-game winning streak. Geno Smith went 23-of-34 for 212 yards and threw two touchdowns for Seattle, and Lockett finished with 63 yards and a score on five receptions.
