Jannik Sinner will hope to block out a partisan home crowd today when he faces Taylor Fritz in the US Open final at Flushing Meadows, where the 12th seed will be bidding to become the first American man in 21 years to win a Grand Slam singles title.
Fritz beat former finalists Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev en route to the all-American semi-final, where he outlasted Frances Tiafoe and is brimming with confidence that he can end the US men’s major drought, with his career head-to-head against Sinner deadlocked at 1-1.
“I’ve always enjoyed playing him,” said Fritz. “I have a feeling I’m going to come out and play really well and win. When I play good tennis, I think that level is good enough to win.”

What happened to Emma Raducanu?
Emma Raducanu was knocked out by Sofia Kenin in a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 first-round defeat on the Grandstand court.
It looked like it could be a short outing as Kenin rattled through the first set, but Raducanu made a match of it by sending it to three sets.
A poor service game midway through the decider proved costly as the former champion headed home.
Having played just one tournament since Wimbledon and skipping the Olympics to focus on her preparation for the US Open, she will be desperately disappointed to fall at the first hurdle and questions remain over the direction of her career.
