Brandy Ross of Colorado Springs, Colorado is amazed. Ross's Saint Bernard mix, Bear, went missing while being watched by a petsitter nearly two years ago. But somehow fate has brought the two back together. "It's weird. It was it was crazy. Like our emotions were everywhere," she said of their reunion.

The miraculous part of the story isn't just that Bear found his way back to his family — it's that it seems that he survived in the wilds of Colorado all on his own.

The story is every pet owner's nightmare. Speaking with KRDO, Ross explained that her beloved Saint Bernard mix just disappeared.

"Like, that was the hardest part. Was going home after I had left him with the sitter and then coming home to not having my dog," she explained to the news outlet, speaking of what happened years ago.

Ross and her family searched high and low for the animal, but it seems like he vanished into thin air. They posted about the dog on social media for weeks, but no one had seen him.

Soon after Bear went missing the military family moved to New York. All really did seem lost.

That is until this summer, in July, when people started reporting that they'd spotted Bear out and about. A group of volunteers decided to look for the dog. For two weeks, they placed food in the area where the dog was last seen.

"We then set up a time to put up what's called a messy trap," volunteer Danielle Neiner explained to the news outlet. "It's a giant trap where they walk in. They hit a light, basically towards the back that triggers the door to close," she said.

By the time they found the animal he was in rough shape. "He was pretty matted, very dirty, all that different stuff," Neiner explained. "He's definitely underweight, but health-wise, he's had no health problems."

It seems impossible. After all this time, had they really found Bear?

"The whole night I'm like, oh my gosh, is this my dog?" Ross recalled. "And then she read the numbers and she's like, it's him. And I was like, no way. And I was literally bawling my eyes out and like, could I? Even now I'm in shock that this is him."

"It's like so crazy that survived for two years in the Colorado weather," she explained. "And to now be like, he's okay. It's weird. It was it was crazy. Like our emotions were everywhere."

In another sweet gesture, community members are paying for Bear to make his way from Colorado to his new home in New York. He set out on September 1. His family was so excited — they couldn't wait for his to arrive.

"So we already bought all of his bed and his bulls, and my kids help me buy him toys, and I video with him, every week, a couple times a week," Ross said.
