As Strictly Come Dancing faces its biggest crisis in 20 years on air, could the upcoming series be impacted in the viewer ratings? The BBC One dancing competition faces a number of different allegations about the duty of care shown to the many celebrities who have taken to the Strictly dancefloor over the past 21 series.

The ongoing scandal began during the 20th series in 2023 when Sherlock star Amanda Abbington quit the show five weeks in, citing medical reasons, but rumours of a rift with dancing partner Giovanni Pernice began to emerge. She later revealed that she had been "diagnosed with mild PTSD" after the show, and Pernice denied allegations that he displayed "abusive or threatening behaviour" while working as a professional dancer on the show.

The BBC launched an investigation and in June confirmed that Pernice would not return for the 2024 series. Fellow professional dancer Graziano Di Prima was also removed from the roster in July due to evidence showing misconduct towards reality TV star Zara McDermott. The BBC announced new measures to 'strengthen welfare and support' on the show including chaperones for every rehearsal.

As further stories emerge from former contestants, the latest celebrity to speak out against the show is table tennis Paralympian Will Bayley who suffered a "life-changing injury" while performing a jump during rehearsals for the 2019 show, who says there was "no duty of care".

But is all of this controversy putting you off tuning in to Strictly in 2024? Let us know in the two polls below.
