When you bring home a dog for the first time, you're not just becoming a pet owner. You're gaining a best friend, a dependent, a playmate, and a partner all in one! Most of the time, it doesn't take long for a new dog owner to promote themselves to dog parent.

Then, before you know it, your life revolves around your four-legged baby. Whether it's planning dog-friendly vacations, including your dog in your wedding, or even buying furniture that your dog can use, there are so many ways to make your furry children the center of your world. One of my personal favorite ways to honor my dogs is by creating art for my home that's inspired by them. Or better yet--they can help me make art!

Creative dog mom Shelby, who runs a TikTok account called @wholemadehome, created the sweetest (and simplest) wall art using only her dogs and a few art supplies. Every dog parent should have this in their home!

What an adorable piece of art! This seems like a project that any dog owner could do with a few dollars and a few hours on their hands, though, of course, it would take longer with more dogs like I have. The only thing I would need to decide is whether to have each dog 'paint' their own fabric or to have all three layered on the same one!

The easy part of the process is collecting craft supplies like fabric, frames, and non-toxic acrylic paint. Shelby and her Brittany Spaniel were on the right track, using a trail of treats to entice him across the fabric, but things went haywire when paint became involved. Dogs have an especially high concentration of nerve endings in their paws, so this completely makes sense. However, innovative Shelby found a solution that worked for them both!

Dabbing paint on your dog's paws will also give you more control over where the paint goes on the canvas. There won't be any drips, slips, or puddles!

Paw Print DIY Ideas

If you don't want to make a mess with paint or worry about cleaning your dog's paws, there are plenty of ways you can immortalize your pup's paw prints instead. A quick Internet search will show you inkless paw print kits that take seconds to make, but you can also imprint your pup's paw or nose in a piece of clay. You can turn it into a Christmas ornament, a sculpture, or use it as inspiration for a tattoo honoring your pet!

Some tech-savvy dog owners have scanned their pup's paws on a copier or taken a close-up photograph. The choices are literally endless if you're willing to get creative--just keep in mind that your dog may not be as patient as you! With a little time and a few enticing dog treats, you and your pup will create your new favorite wall art.
