Football fans had an emotional watch ahead of them this weekend as documentary Sven dropped on Prime Video.

The film looks at the life and career of former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, who announced his terminal cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

Viewers have shared that they found the documentary "heartbreaking", particularly the final moments where Eriksson offered a farewell to those who had made his career.

In January, Eriksson shared the tragic news that he had been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and expected to have at most a year left to live.

The Prime Video documentary Sven was filmed both before and after his diagnosis, following his last visits to his former clubs around the world and ending in a poignant goodbye message to his former colleagues and his fans.

Alongside the football manager narrating his own story, Sven also includes tributes from his former players such as David Beckham and Wayne Rooney, as well as more controversial aspects of his personal life as his ex Nancy Dell'Olio speaks about him cheating on her.

The documentary began streaming on Prime Video on Friday, 23 August.

Much of the focus for Sven has been on the final scenes where Eriksson gives a goodbye message that has moved viewers.

He said: "I had a good life. I think we are all scared of the day when we die, but life is about death as well. You have to learn to accept it for what it is. Hopefully at the end people will say, yeah, he was a good man, but everyone will not say that.

"I hope you will remember me as a positive guy trying to do everything he could do.

"Don't be sorry, smile. Thank you for everything, coaches, players, the crowds, it's been fantastic. Take care of yourself and take care of your life. And live it. Bye."

The documentary was a tough watch for many, particularly its final moments as Eriksson offered his thoughts on his life and his final farewell.

One viewer commented on X: "This is heartbreaking … He may not have delivered a trophy for England but he delivered the best memories for me of England. Thank you Sven."

Someone else wrote: "I have to say, that final “eulogy” by the man himself at the end of #Sven left me with a real lump in my throat. If my end is through a terminal diagnosis I hope I can be as stoic."

Another person added: "Brave man good to hear you’ve enjoyed your life." Someone else agreed: "He's had some life! Hope his passing is peaceful, when the time comes."

One fan wrote: "Courage and heartbreaking all at the same time. You are truly a legend #Sven As you gave us happiness, may you find Peace."

Sven is currently streaming on Prime Video.
