Sweet Chihuahua Mix Surrendered by Family After 9 Years of Love Is Breaking Hearts
It can be difficult to imagine any dog waiting in an animal shelter for someone to take them home, but that's the sad reality for thousands of dogs across the country. No two shelter dogs have the same exact story, and that's only one thing that makes them special. Whether they were born in the shelter until they were adopted or whether they flew across an ocean to meet their new owner, their journey to Happily Ever After is worthy of its own storybook.
As it goes with stories, though, some chapters aren't so uplifting. One Chihuahua mix named Dude has lived through what he thought was a fairytale, only to be dumped at Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California. His story of being surrendered is breaking hearts left and right, especially after rescue advocate @jjack.iie shared his plight on TikTok, but thousands of viewers are praying that it's all about to change.
What a sweet face! Dude seems like a chill little dog, and it's hard to believe why anyone would surrender him at an animal shelter after nine years of unconditional love. The truth is that we just don't know what was happening in his previous owner's life, but it's hard not to feel sad and even angry for this innocent pup.

Even though his life recently turned upside down, senior dog Dude has been resilient throughout his shelter stay. According to his adoption bio, he was extremely nervous and scared when he first arrived at the animal shelter. What dog wouldn't be? Fortunately, after about a week or so, he was feeling a lot more open to meeting his new shelter friends. Now, his favorite thing is hanging out with shelter staff!
The last step toward helping Dude get back his Happily Ever After is finding his perfect adopter. A few people have expressed interest in the TikTok comments, but so far no adoption has been finalized. With that adorable face and his huge ears, it's bound to be only a matter of time until this Chihuahua mix is swept up!
Adopting Older Dogs
As heartbreaking as Dude's history may be, a pup's story isn't the only thing to consider when adopting. Sadly, he's spent a little longer waiting at the shelter due to his older age, which is a 'tail' as old as time. Not as many people consider adopting older dogs due to concerns about medical bills and less time spent together, but the truth is that these dogs are just as loving, grateful, and entertaining as their younger pals! Just ask Dude--old guys are the best!
