It’s been an epic two weeks filled with dramatic gold medal wins, tense close calls and one pole vault loss seen around the world — but the Paris 2024 Olympics closing ceremony is almost upon us.
After kick-starting with an opening celebration that saw French metal band Gojira rock the city with a fiery musical display before some dramatic visuals managed to annoy the Pope (no, really), it’s almost time to call time on sporting’s biggest event.
Before that happens though, we still have the closing ceremony to look forward to — but when will it start, what will it entail and how can you watch it in the UK?

How can I watch the Olympics closing ceremony in the UK?
The 2024 Olympics closing ceremony will take place on Sunday, 11 August at the State de France in Paris, the same venue that hosted a number of high-profile events during the Games.
The 80,000-capacity stadium didn’t play host to the opening ceremony — which instead took place along the River Seine.
UK viewers can watch the event live from 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, with the ceremony scheduled to end at around 10.30pm. Television coverage will start from 7pm, allowing audiences to enjoy some final Olympic highlights before the end ceremony kicks-off.
Viewers can also tune in via the BBC Sport website and app.
Will Tom Cruise be involved in the closing ceremony?
While nothing has been confirmed by the closing ceremony organisers, it’s highly rumoured that Mission: Impossible star and self-confessed stunt-addict Tom Cruise is set to help see the Paris Olympics off into the sunset.
If reports are to be believed, he’ll be abseiling down the Stade de France — did you expect anything less?
Many believe the reason for Cruise’s appearance could be linked to the next Olympics which is set to take place in Los Angeles in 2028. Considering LA is the home of Hollywood, it would make sense that a big star or two might appear to help mark the passing of the Olympic torch.
Which musicians will perform?
In addition to Cruise, Snoop Dogg is rumoured to be performing during the closing ceremony alongside the French bands Air and Phoenix. The rapper has already appeared a number of times throughout this year’s Games.
What’s more, according to Variety, Billie Eilish and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers are also expected to appear.
All three US acts are set to appear from Los Angeles in a mixture of live and pre-taped segments, but it’s unclear which songs they will perform.
What else will happen at the closing ceremony?
Stars aside, audiences can expect a sci-fi dreamscape from this year’s closing ceremony, with the event’s artistic director promising to take viewers on a journey through time that starts with the origins of the Olympics and travels all the way into a dystopian future.
The event will also include a parade of all the athletes involved in 2024’s Games, the medal ceremony for the women’s marathon and the extinguishing of the Olympic flame.
