The Wildcats got the ball back on a Ceonta Wilmore interception, one of two for Williamsport, and a 37-yard pass from Nolan Raley to Talan Lawhorne led to Corry Nelson's 6-yard TD run early in the second quarter. The extra point was blocked as South stayed in front, 7-6.

The Wildcats' low, driven kickoff went off a Rebels player and Williamsport recovered. But Michael Young intercepted a Williamsport pass, the Rebels marched with their ground game and Cahauri Alford scored from the 2 midway through the second quarter. The conversion attempt failed and South settled for a 13-6 lead.

On fourth-and-4, JoJo Davis broke through the middle for a back-breaking 49-yard score that gave South a 35-14 lead with 5:45 left.

"We had a game plan that we weren't executing in the beginning," Sandridge said. "We focused and were able to pull it out. It was a tough-fought win. Those guys fight hard every single week."

After Breland's second interception, the Rebels drew the ire of Williamsport on their final drive in the closing minutes of the game. With the outcome decided, South kept its starters in and kept throwing. Ford hit Breland with a 45-yard TD pass with 1:10 left, and South lined up for the extra point. However, Ford took a high snap and rolled right, throwing to Breland for the conversion to close the scoring.
